I purchased one of the collars posted at the PetSafe website. I would let you inform that it was the best collar I bought out of the three various types of bark collars. It does not fire whenever my dog trembles his head. The adjustable dial allows me to control the level of shock my dog gets.

Since there is a school playground next to my backyard, my dogs used to bark frantically at the children playing outside. This would drive my neighbors crazy. The bark control collar worked well with my younger Schnauzer so I resolved on getting another collar for my older Schnauzer.

The new collar had a different buckle design compared to the one pictured on the website. It has a metal buckle, a black synthetic clasp fastener, holes for the buckle tongue to go into, and a black synthetic holder for the extra strap. This arrangement did not look good on the tiny neck of my Schnauzer. Moreover, the holder piece was broken, thus I have to insert the extra strap under the collar so that it would not shake around. The good is that Amazon.com is going to send me a free replacement. I do not even have to ship the old collar back until I receive the new one.

I have a few reminders for those who are not familiar with bark control collars. Smart dogs that love to bark are able to learn that they can actually do it through a series of six mild shocks at the first level. Afterwards, they would not get shocked for quite a while. This is a safety feature incorporated in the collar, which can make someone think that the collar is broken. A great feature that allows you to adjust the collar up a notch can easily fix this.

The next reminder is that the collar on the dog you cannot leave for more than twelve hours continuously. My grandson was at a client’s house when he saw a dog in the backyard with sores on his neck due to the contact points of the collar. It turned out that his owners neglected the poor dog, and his collar was never removed.

The owners have already been told to the animal safety people. The bark control collar is not cruel, but the improper use of the owners is. Personally, I have been using this collar for more than five years, and I have always been mindful of removing it each night. Thus, my dogs never have any sign of injuries from their collars.

Going back to the second collar that I mentioned above, the metal buckle has worn out the collar. The part with the box and battery still works well, but the collar is impaired. Unfortunately, there are no available replacement collars. I had to purchase a new regular collar to replace it. I prefer the first replacement, which had a relatively wide band and a snap collar. I took the collar apart to take away the metal ring. I was very careful not to get in touch with the prongs, which could produce accidental shocks.

Afterwards, I learned that the snap buckle was very heavy because of the sturdy metal. This caused the collar to spin on my dog’s neck, which dislocated the control box and rendered the collar inefficient. On the other hand, the second collar with the snap buckle caused me a lot of effort to insert three holes into the collar in order to put the control box. The good thing is that the replacement was successful. I made a mental note to take the collar to a shoe repair shop when another replacement is required so that they can put the holes in it for me. This is better that purchasing a brand new collar.
